Digital prisoner transport software for cantonal police and justice

In Switzerland, depending on the canton, up to 120 prisoners are transported between different facilities and to important appointments such as interrogations or medical examinations. Comitas, in close collaboration with a cantonal police organization, has developed an innovative web application that manages the entire prisoner transport process – also accessible via mobile devices.

Seamless planning and scheduling for maximum resource utilization

The innovative prisoner transport software offers seamless planning and dispatching of transport vehicles, resulting in efficient resource utilization. The ability to schedule multiple prisoners with different starting points and destinations in a single transport significantly simplifies organization and reduces empty runs. Individual transport steps can be quickly and easily configured using drag and drop.

Real-time updates and flexible customization options

Drivers receive their transport assignments directly on their mobile devices and are notified of any changes immediately. This gives them a real-time overview and allows them to easily manage their tasks within the app. The application also enables flexible extensions of transports through stopovers or driver changes, allowing for adjustments to changes at any time (e.g., a medical appointment or interrogation might take longer than the driver's shift). Integration with the local shift planning and attendance management system ensures that only available drivers are assigned, and all activities are accurately recorded and documented within the prisoner transport software.

Comprehensive monitoring and security

By integrating GPS trackers into the vehicles, their current locations can be tracked in real time and visualized on an interactive map (Google Maps or OpenStreetMap with Leaflet). Clicking on a van on the map reveals which drivers and prisoners are currently inside and its route (starting point/destination). This allows the police organization to closely monitor the progress of transports and ensure that all prisoners are transported safely and efficiently.

Data-driven decisions and risk minimization

Various data and information can be recorded for each prisoner, including risks such as the likelihood of escape or violence. This information can then be used to identify potential conflicts with other prisoners and ensure that such prisoners are not transported in the same vehicle.

Reporting and analysis

The powerful reporting function provides a detailed overview of all transports carried out and makes it possible to analyze data and perform extensive evaluations, for example by origin and destination locations, time periods, nationalities, as well as age and gender.

User-friendliness and integration are key.

The application was developed with user-friendliness and integration in mind. An intuitive user interface reduces training requirements, and different layouts and colors enhance readability. A flexible role and permissions matrix ensures that different team members have access to the necessary functions according to their responsibilities.

Technologically leading and safely operated

Technologically, the prisoner transport software is based on ASP.NET Core in the backend and Blazor in the frontend, with an SQL Server database. The application is operated in the customer's own data center, with Comitas having secure access and handling some of the operational tasks as well as the deployment of new releases.
The solution enables maximum efficiency, security, and transparency in the police organization's prisoner transport process. Time and resources can be saved, and all information is digitally available at all times.
