Kita Tool — a web application for all target groups at Zollikerberg Hospital

As a hospital with a public service mandate, Zollikerberg Hospital contributes to the optimal medical care of the greater Zurich area and provides care to all patients — regardless of their insurance class — with the same care and according to the highest quality criteria.

To simplify childcare arrangements for employees, Zollikerberg Hospital maintains a fixed quota of childcare places at a nearby daycare center. Previously, attendance was managed using Excel spreadsheets and emails, which increasingly led to problems. The administrative burden for everyone involved was significant, and the occupancy rate of the places was suboptimal. Furthermore, employees (parents/guardians) had no way of seeing how many daycare places were available at any given time.

Intuitive and streamlined structure

Since the management of daycare places was previously based on Excel, we were tasked with creating a completely new web application. We focused on intuitive and therefore user-friendly operation, a clear design, and a scalable data and role model. Our shared goal – the application must be clear and easy to use for all users without requiring training.

Personalized logins for all target groups (parents/guardians, supervisors, personnel administration and daycare staff) ensure data security, and the user group of parents/guardians, for example, only sees their own bookings in detail, while booked places from other parents and their children are only shown as occupied, without details.

Master data such as monthly allowances or vacation and public holiday dates are managed independently by the HR department staff. All data is available to everyone involved in real time. Manually sending Excel spreadsheets and emails to keep everyone informed of the current status is a thing of the past.

A service for everyone

Functions such as requests for care days, the approval of bookings and evaluations are available 24/7 via the common internet browsers.

The web application is operated in the Swisscom data center and used as a service by Zollikerberg Hospital. Maintenance and support are provided by Comitas AG.
