Prisoner transport software in use at Securitas

Digitalization is increasingly changing safety-critical areas as well. A key factor in this is... Prisoner transport software, combining planning, execution, and documentation in one system. A modern web application was developed in collaboration with Securitas to make the planning of prisoner transport between cantons efficient and transparent.

Digitalization in the prison system: Complex transport planning as a challenge

Organizing prisoner transports is complex. Different cantons, various routes, and stringent security requirements must all be considered simultaneously. Often, transport planning within the justice system still relies on manual or semi-integrated systems. This hinders efficient coordination and leads to communication gaps.

Prisoner transport planning at Securitas using digital dispatching

A solution was developed for Securitas that enables fully digital prisoner transport dispatching. Similar to a timetable, the optimal route between loading and unloading points is automatically calculated. Criteria such as transport duration and the number of transfers are taken into account. Currently, 17 predefined routes are available, which can be flexibly adapted and supplemented with variations. This form of digital deployment planning creates a clear structure and significantly improves predictability.

Portal for clients: Record and track prisoner transports

A portal allows cantons to record and manage prisoner transports. The recording process is structured, including all relevant information about the transport, making the process clearly traceable.

Throughout the entire process, the information is centrally available and the current status of a shipment can be viewed at any time. This increases transparency throughout the entire process and simplifies coordination between the parties involved.

Mobile app for implementation in digital prisoner transport

For operational implementation, Securitas drivers use a mobile app on tablets. This clearly displays all relevant information for carrying out the transports.

This includes the stations to be visited and the prisoners who need to be loaded or unloaded. Additionally, security-relevant information such as potential hazards or collusions is displayed.

This makes digital prisoner transport not only plannable, but also safe and efficient.

Digital tracking and secure handover

Another key component is the digital control of baggage and handovers. Each piece of luggage is marked with a unique barcode and scanned during loading and unloading. The handover is digitally confirmed by both the sending and receiving cantons. This form of tracking reduces potential errors and ensures that all processes are fully documented.

Conclusion: Digitizing prisoner transport using Securitas as an example

The project with Securitas demonstrates how prisoner transport can be digitized without compromising security or control. The combination of digital planning, mobile execution, and transparent documentation creates a seamless process. This not only improves efficiency but also fosters a new level of cooperation between the cantons.
