Intranet at Zollikerberg Hospital
As a hospital with a public service mandate, Zollikerberg Hospital contributes to the optimal medical care of the greater Zurich area and treats all patients—regardless of their insurance class—with the same care and according to the highest quality standards. However, to maintain these high levels of medical and nursing care, the necessary technical infrastructure must also be in place.
Since the existing intranet was outdated and difficult to manage due to its static document management system, the hospital needed a portal solution. The crucial and most important application for the hospital is the Document Center. Comitas, in collaboration with the entire IT department, determined the necessary basic structure in advance through a workshop. Following this, the task was to create a suitable Document Center structure for each department and to review, clean, and clearly organize all existing documents. Once this preliminary work was completed, the Document Center could be set up for each hospital department. Since then, it has provided all employees with access to essential documents such as work instructions, guidelines, medication lists, forms, regulations, and contract terms. The Document Center is managed by the administrator and 30 superusers.
The foundation is an organization-oriented folder structure. Users can access the information from various areas of the intranet or via search. This allows everyone to proceed in their own way—searching with various criteria directly on the homepage or navigating to the relevant areas via the menu items.
The content is always displayed according to each user's permissions. If documents are relevant to multiple topics, they are stored once and linked to the other areas. Thanks to automatic versioning, users only ever have access to the most recent version. The intranet ensures that links from all locations always point to the latest version of the document. Because the Document Center is accessed every minute, this application, and therefore the intranet itself, is at a business-critical level.
